Kaeng Som with Thai omelet

What is your favorite childhood dish? Great dishes take us back to different times and places. And the best remind us of home. This recipe my dad likes to cook, and it’s a family favorite.

Normally, I want to show you recipes with ingredients that pretty much anyone can get. But when I saw this Okra in the shop the other day, I immediately thought of this dish and had to grab it. Along with Thai omlete and pork cracklings this soup is simply heaven. 🌱Ingredients (2 servings)

Kaeng Som ~ 2 tbsp Thai sour curry paste (recipe in one of my future posts)
~ 150g fish filet (white fish preferred)
~ 300 ml water
~ 2-3 tbsp tamarind sauce
~ 2 tbsp fish sauce
~ 1 tbsp sugar
~ Okra (or any other vegetables you enjoy)

Thai omlete
~ 5 eggs
~ 1 tbsp fish sauce
~ handful of pork cracklings

Chili dip
~ 2 tbsp fish sauce
~ 1 tsp lime juice
~ 1 clove of garlic, sliced
~ 1 shallot, sliced
~ 3-4 fresh chilis, sliced

How to
Kaeng Som
✔️ Boil fish, once cooked put fish and Thai sour curry paste in a blender and process into a fine paste
✔️ Add the curry/fish paste to 300 ml of water and bring to a boil
✔️ Season with tamarind sauce, fish sauce and sugar
✔️ Add Okra and cook until done

Omlete
✔️ add half a cup of cooking oil to pan and set to high heat
✔️ beat eggs into small bowl and blend with fish sauce
✔️ add egg to pan and set stove to medium heat
✔️ when underside of egg has turned golden, add pork cracklings then flip
✔️ cook until done

Chili dip
✔️ Mix all ingredients of the chili dip
